Happy Birthday Linux!
It may surprise many new users to the Linux scene, that Linux celebrates it's 20th
birthday this year.
As this video demonstrates, you can see it's considerable achievements over that time.

Ubuntu Global Jam
This Years Jam
Ok we tried to obtain some noted speakers from Ubuntu and offered space to those less fortunate all this and the threat of power disruption as well, still SoSLUG triumphed. My congratulations and thanks to my colleagues and friends who helped us put this event together and aided in its execution. A special thanks to Amy McKenny and Emma Emmerton who allowed us to use the gallery space over this two day period. Additionally we would like to thank Terry Piper of Pogo Records for helping with the food and refreshments for us all.
Below are some photos I managed to take on Saturday 3rd October but both were very special rewarding and busy days for us all.

SoSLUG is changing, with membership increasing almost weekly we have decided to provide more help and assistance to our members by providing formal workshops on a monthly basis covering subjects that as a group, our members would like more information on. These formal workshops will take place each 2nd Thursday in the month starting with me Derek Shaw on the 9th April covering the Drupal installation. Future workshops will include MPD (Mplayer deamon) and client applications by Dan Patynski and Ardour and Jack workshops by Gary Cordery.

At SoSLUG it seems we need to celebrate something and given the new releases of Ubuntu have always fell on a Thursday we thought we throw a launch party. Perhaps not a party in the usual sense of the word, as what we aim to do is a mini install fest. Hopefully, we will have early copies of the release candidate 32 bit Intel version to give away.
