SoSLUG is changing, with membership increasing almost weekly we have decided to provide more help and assistance to our members by providing formal workshops on a monthly basis covering subjects that as a group, our members would like more information on. These formal workshops will take place each 2nd Thursday in the month starting with me Derek Shaw on the 9th April covering the Drupal installation. Future workshops will include MPD (Mplayer deamon) and client applications by Dan Patynski and Ardour and Jack workshops by Gary Cordery.

The Southend Linux User Group has been meeting every week at the MediaShed Since November 2005, as a group we have functioned on a weekly basis since July 2003 when the group was initially formed. Now occupying larger premises to cope with demand we assist and train others to use the Linux Operating System and that of it's various and numerous application and management systems, in addition we assist various functions and workshops that are held at the MediaShed and recently other locations throughout the UK.

Strange as it may seem it has been extremely difficult to install my preferred Ubuntu Linux Operating System, this laptop being destined for Morroco it was extremely important that it was installed with a Linux Open Source Operating System. Having recently installed Kubuntu, and on a different machine, PCLinuxOS, one of my priorities was to get my printers working. This proved very easy with my Samsung ML4500 Laser printer, which was recognized by the KDE Printer wizard, but problematic for my Epson R200, for which the necessary drivers were not included in the distribution. NEW: Debian has now been added - see Part 3. Also, there is now a small troubleshooting section at the end.
However; fear not! There are comparatively easy ways to overcome the problems and all will be revealed.
