  • Ubuntu Live CD 7.04(Fiesty Fawn) & 7.10(Gutsy Gibbon) http://ubuntu.com
    • Both version function correctly and will run from CD without complaint, configuration of wireless requires activated using a right click of the mouse on the wireless Icon, various protocol encryption available. No problem detecting sound, video works well but additional packages required not obtainable from LiveCD to benefit from eyecandy available.

    • During installation simple questions are asked installation is smooth and rapid it probably takes longer to run Ubuntu from CD than it does to complete installation. The most difficult part of the installation will be the configuration of the hard disk which you can choose to avoid by accepting the default parameters. Typical total installation time not including updates will take between 20-30 mins.

This was a delightful machine to use the biggest problem faced was that my legs one of them got uncomfortably hot when balanced on lap over a long duration. This was accumulated heat over a long period although the base of the notebook itself was only warm to the touch, however sustained lap use was impossible.

    • Runs from Live CD but configuration of wireless not possible until installation complete due to the need for restricted drivers required the addition of a wired network until restricted drivers installed. LinuxMint offers the advantage of preinstalled media drivers necessary to run video content via the web however advance configuration of preferences for plugin version of MPlayer. Definitely more elegant to look at and a change from the rather drab look of the tired Gnome in Ubuntu essentially though the same distribution as LinuxMint based on Ubuntu.
