XMMS Media Player
XMMS is deprecated on later Linux installations please use audacious instead it is almost the same.
This XMMS Player has been replaced in Ubuntu derivatives, with Audacious
Is their anyone out their that doesn't appreciate the sweet tones of the "XMMS" one of the nice things about Linux and all it's various distributions is freedom of choice, ok you have some choice with M$ Windows but usually this comes at a price in one form or another, by that we mean cost, ads or hidden spyware "nasty". With Linux on the other hand this simply isn't cricket to pollute you code with something that isn't needed so this means less problems, the code itself is minuscule when compared to the big boys which leads you wonder what it is in their code that requires to take up so much room. Download times compared with our counterparts is sometimes less than a minute, installation may take another one or may be two minutes. Due to pate/nt and license infringements we can't just look at the code to tell you what our number competitor has tucked away, so you will just have to wonder. Linux code on the other hand is available for everyone to see and it's free, you don't even have to pay to view the code so if you believe their is more code than their needs to be you can have a look, change it and offer it to the community from which it came.
Ubuntu and many other distro's in their infinite wisdom ship their version of Linux with "Sound Juicer" why, were not sure don't get us wrong Sound Juicer is very good, just not as good as XMMS. Well if you like XMMS and would rather ditch Sound Juicer this is what you can do to be rid of it, In Ubuntu you can mark this for removal simply uncheck the option in Synaptic Package Manager. At the same time you can select the xmms option and other plugins you may require, choose carefully as some plugins will stop your player from working altogether.
Here are some packages you may want to select for installation with XMMS
xmms
xmms-cdread
xmms-goom (optional visual effect
xmms-iris (optional visual effect)
xmms-osd-plugin (if you want it, but works without)
