Procedure for the Installation of Spelling Dictionaries in Mozilla Thunderbird Email Client

This is a quick howto for the enabling of spell check function for Mozilla Thunderbird Email Client.

Introduction

We have so far found it necessary to install a dictionary in the 64Bit Hardy version, it could be that it is also necessary to install manually the dictionary for other older versions of Ubuntu ie 32Bit we just can't remember. Whatever the case there are two methods to install a given dictionary into Mozilla Thunderbird, the accepted method suggests you retrieve Plugins and Add-ons Themes and Extensions into the application from the Tools > Add-ons. If you can access your Extensions and Themes this way great, if not then you may want to read on.

Access the Extensions page for the Addons via the website

Thunderbird-Addons

Open your Thunderbird Email client and access Tools from the Menu and Addons this will display a Gui similar or the same as that below.

The simplest method is to drag and drop with both browser and email client Addons clearly visible select and drag the dictionary you want into the Addons Extension for Thunderbird Email Client.

The alternative method is to first download from the Website the desired dictionary and save this to your Desktop for instance, select Tools option on Thunderbird Email client application and then Addons. Click the install option given and point file browser to wherever you have downloaded the dictionary.xpi file whatever it mey be called. That then is it your Email application Thunderbird is now installed with desired dictionary and the spellcheck function will work.
