Video Tools in Linux

With a properly configured system their is not a lot that Linux can't play execute or run even to the point of mainstream windows applications, however this is not what this section is about. Deep inside most Linux Operating Systems configured for Multimedia are background tools such as mencoder, ffmpeg to name but a few which most foreground gui (Graphical User Interface) and other command line applications rely on to display video output, each in there own right are able to accomplish more than one set task ie playing a video. Often script files can be obtained or created that make use of the tools installed these scripts are often easy to obtain or copy but require some degree of knowledge to ferret out and install the libraries missing from the installation for the script to function.

Such tools when used properly can be used to convert from one file type to another ie avi to mpeg or mpg (if you prefer), plus various indeed numerous combinations thereof.

The tutorials that spur off this section may not be in any specific order nor are they intended to be. It maybe possible that gui tools will come to light in which case these to will be added to this section provided they deal with video format conversion or the repair of video format files.
